Bloating

can be defined by a general swelling or feeling of tightness in the abdominal area. A person who is bloated will often describe feeling ‘very full’ after eating, even after only small amounts. It is usually accompanied by abdominal distension and an over-production of gas.

Bloating can be a symptom of an underlying health problem (such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome), food intolerance, excessive salt consumption, high blood pressure, the menstrual cycle and other health conditions (for example, Diabetes).

Making dietary changes may help with your bloating. For example, drinking several glasses of water each day restores sodium balance and normalizes the digestive tract (relieving constipation).
